I had one year in ’83 where I rode Hondas, but throughout the 80’s I was riding SUZUKIs. Then in 1991, I started getting Kawasaki’s from the R&D department so I started testing and developing more KYB material for KX models, both production and prototype.

Meeting my IDOL: Roger DeCoster

When i was young, my first MX idol was Roger DeCoster from Belgium. I had gotten his autograph when I was 14 years old at Saddleback Park, a Trans Am event that he was racing after the GP season had ended. When I started to work for KYB, I got the opportunity to work with him and that was a dream come true! I went to Europe for the first time in 1980, and Roger invited me to his home and I did work on some KYB factory shocks he had brought to Europe. Over the years, Roger and I became friends and it is something that I would never have believed when I was a kid….

1976: Started working for KAYABA KYB in California

Posted in News on August 17, 2010 by rossi8

I started working for Kayaba Industry Company Western Region Office in 1976 under Mr. Tetsuo Miyamoto. My first work duties were test rider, shop worker and technician. Mr. Miyamoto became my teacher and I absorbed as much information as I could from him. He inspired me to go back to school (Junior college classes) and study engineering classes, but I was not able to complete anything because work interfered with school time. Immediately after starting at KYB, they gave me a set of factory SUZUKI front forks and gas shocks! I was pumped!!
